Minoan Magic and the Palace of Knossos

See the most famous and popular of all attractions in Crete, the Palace of Knossos. This tour that takes you back 5000 years into myths and legends and secrets of Europe’s oldest civilization, the Minoans. The Minoan Palace of Knossos is the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete and was probably the ceremonial and political centre of the Minoan civilization and culture. Optional: Afterwards, explore Crete’s bustling capital, Heraklion, and take some time off for shopping. Visit the collection of archaeological finds in the museum. Enjoy browsing the open food market and visit the Venetian Lion fountain and the loggia before finishing up at the entrance to the old harbour Or: Visit award winning historically restored village of Archanes and stroll through the picturesque side streets and its colourful main square. Cretan countryside and the Lassithi plateau

The Lassithi Plateau offers breathtaking views from the heights of the Dikti Mountains. It’s surrounded by mountains and used to be dotted with countless white-sailed windmills. Included in our route is the beautiful Monastery of Kera, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. We also visit the village of Psychro, where the cave is located, which plays a very important role in Greek mythology: It is said to be the birthplace of Zeus. It has been a cult centre of antiquity and is very impressive with stalactites and stalagmites. During the day we will have a break for lunch. On the return journey we will drive down through winding country lanes with magnificent landscapes to Neapolis where you can visit the Cathedral Panageia and enjoy traditional sweet loukoumades in the square.

Lastros

This is a combined excursion including a small hike and guided tour through Lastros an un-spoilt traditional village. Arriving at Lastros we begin with a small circular walk including breathtaking views of the village and the sea beyond. Returning back to the Village we will have a stroll, get to know the locals and why not have a delicious meal full of Cretan delicacies. After Lunch will be taken an amazing drive though Cretan history starting from the Minoan times, Venetian and Byzantine Empire, whilst never missing out on outstanding views.

Minoan Ruins of Vrokastro

This guided walk will take you through Modern and Ancient paths unraveling secrets of Crete’s wildlife and history. An approximately 2.30 hour walk through the rocky hills with breathtaking view of today’s Mirabello bay, small churches and an old shepherds hut leading you to the Minoan Ruins of Vrokatsro.
This is a circular walk near by Istron village, so lunch will be taken in the village at a local Tavern. (Optional)

Exploring Kolokitha

This is a 3.30 hour beautiful walk that will take you through a diverse landscape with breathtaking views. We start off on a coastal walk which leads to a picturesque church of Agios Loukas. The route continues through plain fields and olive groves leading you to a steep hill just to be rewarded with the unforgettable view of Mirabello bay. This is a circular walk so after we can enjoy some fresh fish mezes for lunch in the town of Elounda.(Optional)

Kritsa Gorge

This is one of the better known and most popular gorges in the Lassithi area. This is a 3.30 hour walk where you get to discover a small but impressive canyon, with very narrow passages and tall walls surrounding you and blocking sun rays. It is a masterpiece of nature, which is worth a visit especially in spring, when flowers bloom and there is a little water. The walk leads to a traditional village Tapes, where you can have a walk around and chat to the locals, Lunch will be taken at a traditional tavern, why not try some goat or various vegetarian options that the local Cretan cuisine offers. (Optional) After the break in Tapes we will walk down the gorge through another route, with breathtaking views of the gorge.
